Trial By Jury / HMS Pinafore   HMS Pinafore

TRIAL BY JURY The scene is a Court of Justice, before which appears Edwin, who is being sued for breach of promise. He apparently ran out on his fiancé on the eve of their wedding. The learned Judge appears to be a similar kind of man, having advanced his career through his relationship with a rich attorney's daughter, whom he then threw over.

The wronged woman in today's case is Angelina who, accompanied by her bridesmaids, collapses with grief when her Counsel states the case against the plaintiff. She is comforted by the Foreman of the Jury. On his part, Edwin pleads that his heart is so inconstant that he would be a terrible husband for any woman.

How will the Judge find?

HMS PINAFORE It is the year 2299 and Her Majesty's Space Ship Pinafore is docked twenty miles above Portsmouth. A visit from Sir Joseph Porter, First Lord of the Federation, is eagerly awaited, but all is not well.

Sir Joseph, accompanied by his cousin Hebe, has come to court the daughter of Captain Corcoran. However, Josephine herself is in love with Ralph Rackstraw, a lowly shuttle deckhand, and the pair attempt to elope with the crew's help. The twisted Dick Deadeye has other ideas, however. Meanwhile, the Captain has been growing very fond of Little Buttercup, a strange mystic lady.

All these complications can only be solved by a true Gilbertian twist.
